My Experience with Yahoo SiteMatch

PFI is great. I have got into the top four for all of the keywords I am interested in and zero backlinks on each page (pr0 .. they're all fresh). Which is great, because the #1 guy on Google has like a zillion backlinks.

First couple of days I had to do a lot of tweaking, but after the nicely fresh frequent crawl .. I'm there!

How long this will last is anyone's guess, but it is nice to know you don't really need a substantive website to rank high, just have to hand over the credit card #.

Any other stories out there?

Thanks Blaze. The real test will come if/when you stop advertising with Yahoo. At that point the entire domain may disappear from the index forever, if it's like the old Ink system.

Interesting. I have seen a few pages rank pretty decent with what seems to be no incoming links (both internal and external)

Nowhere to be seen.

Mine you, some of those backlinks are pretty dodgy as far as I am concerned.

Pretty sure I could sign him up for SiteMatch and get him banned permanently from Yahoo.

blaze - The idea of signing up someone for site match (or the old Inktomi PFI) was metioned in another forum I participate in. It's very troubling.

Someone claimed to have done it and gotten a competitor dropped from Inktomi PFI. The guy wouldn't share his information with me, but swore that he had done it. He was concerned about having his information get back to Yahoo somehow. He claimed... and backed it up with lots of examples, that apparently Inktomi PFI pages were subject to a stringent filter/penalty process that organic results were not. SO, once he figured this out, he simply submitted the competitors site to Inktomi PFI and waited. Almost immediately, the site disappeared.

This, if it is true, is cause for major concern. I can't confirm if it is factual or not, becuase the guy would not disclose his identity or the site he got banned (a little shady, but I understand the logic behind keeping his identity hidden). Yahoo is using Inktomi technology to power Site Match, so one would assume that the same bug would work with Yahoo too.. although, I don't have any hard evidence to prove that.
