A couple of days before Yahoo search results came online I submitted 20 pages to Inktomi.

My site was not included in Yahoo search results.

I noticed tonight after doing a specific search with my site name and a couple of keywords, that at the bottom of the list of displayed results, I found the pages that had been submitted to Inktomi.

So paid Inktomi listings do get into the Yahoo results..though in my case only pages that I have paid for are in the results and they are shown near the bottom of a search that includes my company name.

Its a joke. While the results are included in the index there seems to be something in their algorithm that moves them to the bottom of the Yahoo search results.

Only thing I can think of is that by doing this they are trying to get website owner's who are in the same position as me to pay for more Inktomi listings. According to marketleap, a feed will cost a minimum of $3,000 for 2 to 3 months... though based on the taffic I receive from Google, Im sure if the pages show up high...it will end up costing far more than $3,000. Perhaps though they keep click throughs within budget by reducing how high up your site will show in the results.

I really wonder if this somehow violates FTC regulations requiring search engines to adequately disclose paid advertisers.

Seems like if the only pages I have in their search results are one's that I paid Inktomi (Yahoo) for...they should be required to disclose this.

Moreover, If I do an XML feed, I suspect my entire site would then show up in their results...and at that point I would be continuosly paying to have them there and since they would be showing up in unpaid results...there would be no disclosure by Yahoo.

If things dont change with my site being indexed, I may just go ahead and do an entire XML feed for the main purpose of having the entire site then show up in "unpaid results" and then bring this to the attention of the FTC.
