Question about what will get included

I run several sites for one company. Each of these sites has different products and services from each other. They do however share a common theme, contact information, and shopping cart system.

When I tried to get these sites included in DMOZ they shook their finger at us and said they would only include one of the sites - the main site for the company. Irritating since none of the sites offer the same products or services, but not a really big deal.

Now we are looking at Yahoo's Directory. But, at $300 per express inclution I am very hesitant becuase of the experiance with DMOZ and becuase they want $300 just to look at the site with no assurances of inclusion. Has anyone else been through this with Yahoo or have any insite?

In my (limited) experience, and by common sense: DMOZ is free, based upon ideals, and hence not keen on duplication. Yahoo is commercial, and at $300 a pop will naturally be more inclined to keep you coming back and listing more URLs - so long as the sites aren't near-identical you shouldn't have a problem.

I agree with the above statements - Yahoo is definitely interested in revenue, so they will quite likely list all your sites.

However, I'd encourage you to do some research to determine whether the listings are worth it. Would you gain PR value? Would you gain traffic?

If no, then perhaps you might want to spend that money in other ways, such as the URL inclusion program or buying links.

If you have a number of sites then it is going to cost you $300 each per year. You need to weigh this up to see if it is worth it to your company.

You may be better putting this money into PFI pages or Overture/AdWords PPCs.
