For years now, Yahoo has been my benchmark when testing connection speed. Their lack of latency and lag has been remarkable...

...until the last few weeks. Consistently, Yahoo has been slow for me. Especially Quote.Yahoo.Com. Recently, I have even received a few proxy errors (from their side!).

This really makes me wonder if they are trying to cut bandwidth costs...or having some sort of trouble...?

Maybe Overture is taking up all of their bandwidth now!

It could be the worm that's going around

I would totally agree, but the slowness pre-dates the worm as far as I can tell.

again today... slowness of quote.yahoo.com all day, even getting weird XML error messages that disappeared upon reload.

Ratchet back the bandwidth on free services...hm...rather than sell more email storage and such they should sell faster access to their pages!

Seeing as how Pasadena, CA (Overture) is located FAR from Sunnyvale, CA (Yahoo!), and since I highly doubt they're on a VPN, I doubt they'd be sharing the same bandwith.

True, but I have long thought about Yahoo's bandwidth costs (always so darn fast) for a free service. I think the time has to come where they pull back to a minimum for the free services.

I noticed Yahoo is switching between Google and Inktomi's indexes this might result in some slowness.

I don't see how load balancing would slow down a huge corporate site.
