So how to get more hits and make your site stand out more? You could always do the Sponsored sites but that will cost you more, and you may want to depending on how many people are in your category. This thread is about the Most Popular selection of sites that displays above the normal results. Not all categories have Most Popular and I'm not sure why. It could be because not a lot of people go in the categories and click on the items. It could be there are not enough listings in a category for there to be most popular sites to stick out.
This I can find out with your replies. Each site when you click on it it passes through a Yahoo URL before it goes to your site, that is their ticker or tracking device to know how many hits your site is getting from what I can see. The number in the URL is unique to the site and it doesn't change (atleast I havent noticed it change). So ideally the more you click on it the more popular your site will become. It could trigger it to make a most popular selection to the category also.
What I have done is taken my Yahoo URL:
h*ttp://srd.yahoo.com/S=xXxXx:D0/R=3/CS=xXxXx/SS=XxX****/*http://www.domain.com/ and set it as my homepage so each time I open my browser window it clicks on the site.
Its not certain if Yahoo discredits clicks to the URL if it doesnt refer from their page first, but that would be easy enough to do, just one extra step, set your homepage to the category your site is in and then click on your site.
My site is most popular for my category and it is helping by bringing me a tad more traffic.
