I hardly ever do a search in Yahoo, but I did one a little while ago, and I was stunned at how bad the search results were.

Based on how bad the results were, I did about 10 more searches on a variety of topics, and while some of the results improved a little, overall, they were really really bad.

Since I don't use Yahoo much, I'm not sure if this is typical, or if this is a sudden change.

Can someone let me know if there has been a recent change?

Are the types of results (ie. REALLY bad) I described common, or just a fluke?

I searched a few phrases, and as far as i can tell these are not google results. They used to have google-results right? they seem to have totally dropped google.

maybe it's a temperary thing, and maybe it a glitch on my side.. but very interesting it is.

Not only are they not Google, I can't get over how really bad they are.

Not to be obnoxious about it, but what does everyone else think?

I'm curious as to whether or not the consensus is that they are good, average, bad, or really really bad?

Yahoo uses Google. Some scattered folks are served up experimental results from Inktomi or something else.

So there is no way to answer your question. The serps you are seeing are not what most people are seeing.

Maybe the Yahooink slipper will drop at midnight. Every time I see one of these threads I get antsy, but I've never seen nothing but Yahoogle.

Yahoogle still here. Must be IP based.

I agree that Ink results are really bad... I'll be shocked if Yahoo releases them to the general public.
I really want Yahoo search to succeed, but if Yahoo releases Ink to the general public in it's current state... it's only going to strengthen Googles position as the king of search...and it's going to be disastrous for Yahoo.
If people can't find what they are looking for on Yahoo-Ink where do you think they'll go for all they searches after that?... yup... Google. And they won't come back to search on Yahoo for a long time.
So...those of you who want some balance of power in the search market... Yahoo-Ink may be the answer... but it's not yet... not even close.
If Yahoo wants to match up against google... they really need to do some work with Inktomi or focus on ATW or AlataVista.

Just a follow-up.

I went back into Yahoo and did the same initial search that caused me to want to do some more tests a week ago. The results are the same stinkers as before, and I'm not joking when I say they are really really bad.

I also want Yahoo search to do well. While I have great positioning with Google, I'm a firm believer in competition making you improve, so if Yahoo search were to come on strong, I think Google would be pushed to work even faster and better. Which would be good for everyone.

And since most people will compare Yahoo search to Google, the only way it will be viewed as a strong player is if it displays comparable search results. My hopes are that a strong Yahoo search would give the good sites in Google a similar position, although not exactly the same.

This would lessen the 'eggs in one basket' issue.

So, I look on the Yahoo search as it stands now as bitter-sweet. If they were to release it now, there would be a mass exodus to Google, based on the types of results I'm seeing here. More people to Google would help me, but I'd still prefer another major player with good search results.

This does make me appreciate Google even more now though because it is obviously taking Ink a long time to try and get their algorythm up to speed.

I hope MSN works faster than Ink in getting their search engine working.

3 Googlish search players would be ideal.

I agree, I was shocked at the searches I've been getting on Yahoo lately. About as bad as Alta Vista. I use Dogpile now. Love it!

I am now seeing Ink on Yahoo for the first time. It's very close to Pure Ink; I'm not seeing Yahoo Directory titles replace actuals.

I'm also getting pure Ink from Southern California.

It doesn't look bad to me. And I'm seeing a pretty big spike in Yahoo traffic.

I guess it all depends on your industry. Google
is now returning crap for our industry, and Ink
is providing good results.
