Last Monday:
Google: 43% of traffic
Yahoo: 20% of traffic
Today:
Google: 34.7 %
Yahoo: 29.8 %
This is a huge discrepancy considering that this is a site with several million unique visitors per month.
Is anyone else getting percentage of traffic discrepancies today like this? Is Yahoo rolling out more Inktomi as they slowly phase out Google?

Thanks for the post storemaster.
if you can wait you will get in for free, I've got one site that has over 1000 pages indexed by Ink, linking & time is the key with ink, cos it don't happen over night, but if you want it to happen like yesterday you'd better get your CC out
Is Inktomi going to continue to charge per page
Don't forget : they also charge CPC's for trusted feeds.
I think Inktomi is a great search engine I just don't like the fact that I can only include a few pages from each website or else the costs are too high.
Usually, it takes time to get your pages indexed. What I've noticed is that pages with good content and 0 incoming links get indexed in due time.
Since they are so bad, I had no choice but to switch to MSN serps which are now much better.
They've always been good, but most people never noticed since they weren't too open to use anything besides Google.

Aint that the truth
While that may be true, if Inktomi wasn't a sound investment, Y! wouldn't have bought them.
Yeah right...and a corporation has never made a bad investment in an online property (how soon we forget: [news.com.com...] )
I really don't have a preferance either way. I have sites in over a dozen different types of commercial markets. Most of those areas look significantly better in terms of quality on google than Ink, and I persoinally think if Yahoo were to make a switch to 100% Ink results, there will be a similar uproar in terms of relevancy that we've had for google recently.
Actually...I think altavista looks much better.
The real fun will start once MSN Bot is taken off it's leash ;-)
I am somewhat confused about that. For the few queries that I tested, I got different results at Overture and (pure search) Inktomi. Many of the major players are the same, but in different orders, and there are other differences too, at least in the top 10-15 listings. It's like the same brand of icecream in vanilla versus french vanilla flavor...
So, which type of vanilla will the new Yahoo give us? I'd like some AVanilla please... :)
First I urge anyone even thinking of paying for inclusion on FAST or Ink to read my posts in the following forums before doing anything:
[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]
They detail how shortly after submitting to Fast and Inktomi via Lycos' Insite (for FAST) and Network Solutions guaranteed Inclusion service (for Inktomi) our domain went from over 100 great indexed pages and rankings on alltheweb to 0 in no time flat. I also discovered that one of our guaranteed inclusion submitted pages which showed up in ADDITION to our already listed page on one of the engines ranked only an 80 vs the pre-existing one at 4!
Just today I discovered that Yahoo now includes inktomi listings in their searches and guess what? What previosuly happened to us on alltheweb just happened on Yahoo! too! All our previously indexed pages on Yahoo, literally hundreds. HAVE VANISHED OVERNIGHT. The only one left is the one which includes the inktomi tracking code and it is impossible to find just like on all the other engines!
I didn't care all that much about the other dying engines, Lycos, Hotbot, alltheweb, etc. that feed off FAST/INK, but Yahoo used to account for over 20% of our traffic. Now it is 0%!
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PAY FOR GUARANTEED INCLUSION!
NEVER!

Is it possibly an ATW mix or a mix withh the Y! directory? The directory mix makes sense on a few of these, but on others, there seems to be no method to the madness (although I guess trying to figure it out is the fun part).

Overture search is powered by the Inktomi database.

AV failed for a reason, so I would hope that Y! will stay far away from AV's results.

You can't go wrong with a trusted feed.

I REALLY doubt it.
Can anyone say Netscape/AOL/Time-Warner. Yes, but the folks at Time-Warner would rather just have you call them Time-Warner, nowadays.
Reminds me of Ted Turner, but comparing Y! to Turner is apples to oranges.
I think inktomi is great and is much better than google.
It's always been that way.
And I hope yahoo stops showing google results as soon as possible.
Believe me, most of us do, despite what the more vocal opposition might say.
I'm a little perturbed that PositionTech raised it's yearly fees 60% (last year $25, this year $39.) Guess Yahoo's implementation makes it more valuable now. Still, it's one of the better deals around when you consider Inktomi's reach.
I should probably mention that they have no problem placing me in as long as I pay....
It seems like everyone's accusing Y!/Inktomi of causing their positioning in the SERPS to go south after paying for inclusion. What you have to remember is that Inktomi doesn't gain anything by killing your positioning.
And if they were ONLY about the money (as you're implying), wouldn't they be doing the complete opposite? Wouldn't they be pushing up paid inclusion pages in hopes that you'd pay to include MORE pages?
Back to Yahoo rolling out more Inktomi ... I saw about 3X more referrals from Y! this weekend than I normally get on weekends. The pages that were driving traffic are indexed in Inktomi ONLY (not indexed in Google in any shape, form, or fashion).

OK - so I have been trying to figure out why my pages were dropped after I had paid for inclusion. I must admit it never occurred to me to think "penalty" so I did a search for my site by the title of the index page and found it with a totally different url - dug a little deeper and found it to be a very old affiliate link url that hasn't been on my site for at least 3 years. Really screwy..Does anyone know how I would get this thing removed from the index or even how to contact anyone at INK to investigate any other negative issues that would have resulted in being expelled from the data base?
I'm not sure if this is what you're saying, but it sounds to me like you're saying that when you type in YOUR URL, you see your affiliate's tracking code. If that's the case, then someone has submitted your URL via trusted feed with the affiliate tracking code. If you don't want your affiliate doing this, my suggestion is that you call Inktomi and let them know.
