Would like to know how Yahoo supports PPC.

If I want my ads to appear on Yahoo's web listings (not directory) how do I go about it? If I advertise in Overture, does that mean that I my ads will automatically appear on Yahoo as well? Also, for my ads to appear in the Directory Listings on Yahoo, what do I have to do? Do the same ads appear for both Directory as well as Web search results of Yahoo? Also, what is the difference between Yahoo Sponsor Listings and the Ads which appear on the right hand side of Yahoo Directory Listings? Are they the same?

Please help!

Thanks! :)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, matahari.

If you are using Overture for PPC, the top 3 or 4 results (highest paying advertisers) will show up on Yahoo under "Sponsor Results." Your ads will not automatically appear on the first page of the results unless you are a top 4 bidder for the search phrase at Overture. If you scroll to the bottom of the results page and click on the NEXT page, you will see the Overture results from position #5 thru #8 from Overture. Understand?

The second section are "Web Results." These are usually pages that are optimized for Google. Top ranking here is achieved by having a high PageRank (PR) from google, and having many inbound links to your site.

To get into the Yahoo Directory (if your a business site), you have to pay $299 US for one year. You can pick the category and write your description, but it is subject to be changed by Yahoo editors - and there is no guarantee you will be listed - be sure to follow every rule before submitting.

The Overture PPC is different than Yahoo directory, so they do not appear in both.

The advertisments that appear on the right of the Yahoo directory listings are from Google PPC - known as Adwords.

So, the yahoo sponsor listings are usually Overture, and the yahoo directory adverts on the right are Google Adwords.

Hope that helps, WFN:)

Hi ,
Thanks so much for your reply. Let me reiterate what I understood -

1) the Ads appearing on the right for Web Results in Yahoo are from the top 3 bids in Overture.

2) the ads appearing on the right for Directory Results in Yahoo are from Google Adwords.

Am I correct?

However, I have a couple of points to raise-

1) I did not come across any listing or ads in Yahoo Web Results which says "Sponsor Results" . There are only "Yellow colored" ads which appear on the right.

2) The above ads seem to be the same across ALL the result pages. ie. if i search for "limited liabilty company" i get three ads on the 1st page and the same three ads on the next page and so on... only that these three ads are rotated in all the different pages.

I hope you can clear this up for me .
Thanks :)

Just to clarify the ads from the right are not from Adwords, they are Yahoo's own PPC ads. They use a similar method to display the ads but they're not fed by Google. To advertise on the right hand side, you would have to contact their advertising department.

I have ads on the riht side. You pay by the impression there. There are some real good deals to be had there. I got an ad on the right for like nothing in an area that it costs $35 (today) a click on overture to play on the top. Also they show up on web and directory results. Just type in some real populer term and you will see them.
