Browser compatibility - affect review?

If my site doesn't look right in NS4 will I get accepted?

Hi everyone,

I've recently changed my website to a full css layout..It looks great and cut the average page size down to half. I've sent my site into Yahoo a couple times in the past year and have never been accepted, and I think it's because my site has never looked good in anything but IE. Now it works in Opera, NS6 and 7 and just about everything else, except for old browsers like NS4 and possibly IE4( haven't tested).

Is my site perhaps not being added because it doesn't work in NS4?

Hello madmatt69. At one time in history, that might have been the case. Not so these days. You've covered the majority of the most popular browsers. I doubt very seriously it has anything to do with browser compatibility.

A little OT, I do know that Yahoo! typically will not accept a personal site that is lacking in content. If there are any pages that say information is coming soon or contain only a paragraph or two of content, then you may not get accepted.

<added>Are you performing a free non-commercial submission to Yahoo! Or, are you attempting to perform a free submit with a commercial site?

Thanks for the response.

I've actually got a lot of content, a couple hundred pages worth.

I'm going for the free submit. I've submitted many sites before hand that have all been accepted quickly, but this one never gets accepted, and I can't seem to figure out why...

There are a couple of things that could be happening...

1. The site does not contain sufficient unique content to be listed in the Yahoo! directory.

2. The site contains some form of commerce which would classify it as a commercial site and requires a paid submit ($299.00 annually).

There are some other things like lack of contact information, etc. that may affect getting listed. I believe if you have any affiliate links that Yahoo! will classify the site as commercial.

I've been submitting through Yahoo asia as well..I've submitted many commercial sites through their free submit, websites for business's etc. and they've been accepted. That's why I'm stumped with this one. There aren't really many affiliate links at all on the site, but I do have AdSense displayed on part of the page. The content is pretty unique too...There's a few articles which I'm using (with permission), but otherwise it's all me :)

I've got a privacy policy link on the bottom of the page which is P3P validated and has my contact info as well.

Could there be anything else?

The only advice I can give at this point would be to continue on the same path that you are. Or, dish out the $299.00 for a paid review. ;)

P.S. If you think it is an NN4.x issue, you might want to utilize the @import method of calling your style sheets. At least this way the editor will get an unstyled page that is readable. I still doubt very seriously that is the issue. I find it hard to believe that anyone would utilize NN4.x as a gauge for browser compatibility in this day and age.
