Yahoo descriptions update

(any use to anyone?)

I have just been (categorically) refused a description change on one of my sites by Yahoo on the basis that certain keywords were in the description and were not allowed. When we pointed out to them the many other sites that had the same keywords in their descriptions, they removed them from those listings (not our intention)!

Maybe this is useful for anyone that needs to have a spam / competitor's site "redefined / re-edited". Although generic words / expressions are allowed, many specifics, including manufacturer's names / products etc. are obviously not. And you can not blame them I guess.

They have even offered to remove my (this particular) listing and refund the original US$199 submission fee - We will just be sending them back a polite "Leave it, but please..... save us the trouble of incorporating the keywords into a new domain name and then switching URL's, by at least doing something for us on the title!" - They had a problem with that too. Having said that, I am, as always, really impressed with Yahoo in this and overall, and do not want to rock that boat too much.

Will let you know how / if this develops.

Very interesting. I have also noticed a trend towards nuking descriptions. I'd not tried the 'pointing out the competition' thing yet. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, thanks Newbie. I think they are trying to keep the keywords in their own category descriptions. One of the surfers told us if you are in category 'keyword-1', keyword-1 will not appear in the description. Examples that do have that I believe are older listings.
