Is the initial boost threre?

whan you first get into the directory, do they give an up front boost to rank in any way?

You get the "New" tag next to the listing and it stays on top of the alphabetical results in the directory for a few days. However, this only gives you a boost in traffic if that category is coming up in the SERP's. They don't include a new directory site in the main results (over Google).

Its been so long I actually had forgotten about that new tag.

I have no idea why I did not specify, but was thinking of a keyword search from the home page kinda thing... wondered if its still there.
