Yahoo Adwords-style ads?

Did I miss something...

I just did a search for hosting on Yahoo! and I saw Adwords style ads on the RHS of the page. Who is serving these? When did this start, and more importantly, how can I get there?

Thanks.

Was the advert for an internal yahoo! feature?

I have seen these a few times but the adverts only appear to be for yahoo properties. Perhaps this has changed. If it has changed then very good question. How do we get there?

It does not appear to be only for the keyword mentioned above. Tried a few searches for popular (one word) keywords and got them every time.

Never use Yahoo, so I have no idea if this is new.

I did some searches, and not only did I get ads similar to adwords, I also saw some ads that were 9 lines in length, with most of the lines with a bullet before each "selling" point of the product. But what was most noticeable is that the top of these ads also have a 120x30 pixel colored company logo for the advertising company.

You hit reload and a new set of these longer ads with logos show up, so there are enough of these advertisers to be rotating through an inventory of ads to display.

I've never noticed this before, but maybe I haven't been searching for the one word popular keywords on Yahoo lately.

The two ads I see for a hosting search flip-flop each time you do a search.

"mortgage" is interesting. Logos on top of each ad and all text in links. 3 ads displayed but refreshing shows that they are choosing from 4 ads.

With logos on top, this can't be self serve?

That is the same thing I got (logos & all text as a hyperlink) when I tried some of the various pharmaceutical terms.

Yahoo's advertising section seems to suggest you have to be spending $3k+/mo for them to even give you the time of day. I'm sure they'll be changing that soon.

Their results are starting to look worse than ask.com's in terms of paid vs. relevant results. When they drop google they'll be pretty much useless to the user imho.
