Hello everyone, this is my first post, finally come out of lurking. I just had to share the good news that I got listed in the Y! directory for free on my first submission. I could not believe it as I had submited other sites with no luck. This site got added 3 days after submission. I almost did not submit because no other site I had submitted had ever been included. I have been receiving about 70 uniques a day from the directory, which was very surprising considering it is a very low level category.

Just wanted to share, thanks for listening.

Hi boxercrazy, Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Your site that was added to that 'very low level category' was related to a non-profit organization? Why do they add sites for free?

Takagi,

Yahoo! have always had a free directory listing option.

Problem is, nobody ever seemed to get in via it, and those that did, eventually, often had to endure a six month wait!

3 days is unheard of. That's the equivilent of getting into dmoz within 4 seconds of submission!

I have been trying to get a new site into dmoz for ever 2 weeks now and as soon as I hit the submit button, their server crashes! :-((

So far, I have tried 9 times... all with the same negative results

DMOZ needs to get their act together

If you're getting a 404 error rather than the confirmation page, just click back and try again until it goes through.

Kudos boxercrazy.

By any chance you have a relative on the inside? hehe, just kidding. I've tried monthly to have a NFP site listed via Y's free process over the past 14 months and still no joy.

Congrst on your listing boxercrazy. More power to ya! I sat down one day and figured out that I have submitted 42 web sites to Y!. Some of them I never really kept track of but 2 were rejected with explanations from Y! reviewers as to what needed to be fixed. Both times it took 4 weeks to get the rejection email. There were 11 site that made it in where I wanted them to be and the rest... well thankfully there's Overture.

I'm over the moon about getting a free listing in Yahoo for a new site too. It helped that it's a regional site. But I couldn't believe it when I got an email to say it had been listed.

Quick write an e-book; listed in Yahoo in 3 days!

You could retire on the profits.

Well done, it's a good claim to fame.

Olwen and BoxerCrazy,

Out of interest, to which Yahoo! did you submit?

Mine was Australia and New Zealand, to a New Zealand category. And it was only a few days too, certainly less than a week.

I've found that if you word a site the right way it has more of a chance to get listed. I submitted a site a few days ago, 7 to be exact and it was listed, i got the email from Yahoo saying congrats, a commercial site but the description and content on the site was majority informational.

I think you have the nail firmly on the head. Get the site right and other elements fall into place.

Still, days instead of months for Yahoo is excellent.

I get all of my nonprofit (noncommercial) sites listed with yahoo in about 2-3 months. After submitting it to yahoo, its listed on the first page. Most of the sites I have listed for free are ranked first for whatever reason, so far only one site I submitted for free didn't get that ranking, its in like 6th place. As of yet I haven't had any problem listing nonprofit sites with them.
