So far we have 18 registerations. In addition the website contains lot of information for people who are adding the property and searching for properties. Basically I have lot of content on the site.
I decided I will try and register with Yahoo UK and paid £199 yesterday. Today I got an email saying that they have rejected my submission. The reason they have given for rejection was that they searched for properties in New York and Dublin and it didn't return any properties. And they search for London and there was only one Property. They say I must have atleast few propertise in all major cities.
They say I must fill the database with propertise then register. The site takes new registerations online, so for people to find the site and register propertise, it must be on search engines. I submitted to Yahoo UK because my site was UK based and I dont know why they searched for New York.
They said I dont have enough propertise but I have 18 properties so far across UK and I am getting new registerations every day.
What do you think I should do? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
David
Is your marketplace regionally based in the UK. Personally i would re-look at your site, and question why a hand-edited submission allowed the editor too think that they should be drawing terms for cities in other countries.
Oh btw, You're certainly not the first to get knocked back by Y! Would suggest having a good look at your site!
A site I launced last month is now on Google and Dmoz, if I go to Yahoo and seach then it comes up (OK its not in the Yahoo directory, but that does not concern me as traffic from that tends, for my niche, to be small)
So bite the bullet and put up with the problems of submitting, and try DMOZ submission. Get a decent link to make sure Google spiders you... and you are up and running
There's a good possibility that a listing in Yahoo won't produce the kind of traffic you need.
You really need to submit it to Dmoz and get quite a number of links to your site. This will help you rank in Google. The traffic, and registrations, will roll in from there because your site will appear in both Google and Yahoo. At that point, you could re-consider the Yahoo listing.
Your other option is to populate your site with bogus listings and appeal the submission so you don't lose your money.
I had exactly the same problem as you with a real estate site in the US 3 years ago, back in the days when the Yahoo Directory was free.
They complained the site had insufficient listings to justify its inclusion. I waited 3 months and then submitted again when the site had a few hundred listings from alternative sources....this time they listed it for free, and it remains free today.
As of this point in time that site & company has grown to be the second largest real estate company in the geographic area where it operates.
Yahoo editors are a short sighted bunch of a$$e$. By refusing to list sites that are potential industry leaders they are simply cutting off their own noses to spite their own faces.
The traffic generated from the Yahoo! directory today represents less than 1% of all SE referrals.
If I had to pay today I would tell them where they can stick their subscription fee!
Next time, keep in mind that before listing a site in yahoo! it must be a complete site. Complete in every respect (including an address and phone # at the bottom of the front page indicia).
