When to resubmit to Yahoo free listing

It's been 3 weeks since my submission...

I submitted for a freebie Yahoo directory listing about 3 weeks ago now (non-commercial hobby site).

How long should I wait before firing off another add URL request, or should I just leave it completely?

We're in DMOZ (within 3 days of request) and most of the others (Zeal, JoeAnt etc) so I'm not desperate, but would really like to get into Yahoo.

Thanks,

TJ

Good luck to ya TJ.

I've submitted to Yahoo several times over the past year for a free listing (NFP info site.)

Near on as I can tell, the spaced out requests are all
just wasting away down in noninclusionville
hoping for a review that's worth its salt
some people claim ... the lack of funds are to blame
but who knows, it may be my fault.

Sorry Kevin, what I really need to know is how long should I wait in between resubmits?

Anyone?

Thanks,

TJ

You don't need to resubmit at all, they know it is there and will either include it or not.

That's what I needed to know.

Thanks James,

It has been stated here before that you should resubmit after three weeks as they periodically purge submissions.

I suspect its close to pointless though since they have nearly shut off free listings.

It's my understanding as well that Yahoo purge the queue every three or so weeks. The trick as I know it is to get your request in there right after the last purge, so you'll be close to the beginning of the cycle.

When is the cycle? Your guess is as good as mine.

Ah, ok - so I was wrong - I should re-submit.

I appreciate that the chances of my getting in for a free listing are remote, but this is a non-commercial hobby site so I'm not interested in paying for a listing.

I don't really need it, but for the cost of firing a mail off every month I think I'll still have a go.

There's 3 categories that I can fit this site into. Is it worth submitting to all three at once, each month, in the hope that one gets in?

Or is that considered spam?

Thanks,

TJ

Im not sure but i think yahoo only allow you to submit to one category, free listing can take as long as 6 months to be included in some cases.

Hey TrillianJedi,

Trying submitting it to Yahoo Asia.

I submitted a site about 3 months ago to both yahoo.com and asia.yahoo.com It didn't get listed.

Then I tried again to asia.yahoo.com about 3 weeks ago. It got listed in 10 days. They even sent a confirmation email!

So I suggest you try that.

Thanks 2-much I'll give that a go!

Out of interest, can I still submit to a regional category on the asia site?

When is the last time that someone got a non-paid submission for a noncommercial site accepted into a US category in Yahoo?

About 5 years ago, I tried to get a noncommercial site listed in Yahoo. I submitted the site every few weeks, to the "Community" subcategory of my city. After about a year, I gave up trying, but I still check the category periodically. The handful of sites listed in that community category now were mostly there back in 1998, but the total number of listings has dwindled over time.

Along the way, I also submitted some other local sites to the local category, and Yahoo did list the local government and the local newspaper, but nothing else that I submitted.

I finally came to the conclusion that Yahoo has no interest in adding to the noncommercial parts of its US directory. :-(

Has anyone had a more positive experience?

I submitted a listing to a topical category and included the city and state in the Geographic Location field. The site was listed in the regional categories and the topical category.

Yes it does seem that yahoo will only list the most important non commercial and important websites for FREE such as news, weather and community sites etc, however if your site is important it will certainly get a listing eventually.
It is a shame but small hobby sites have little importance to yahoo it would seem now.

Focus on Google.

I have submitted over fifty sites via free submission through various means (their other geographical Yahoo! sites like Asia) and I got squat.

These were for informational sites, and hobby sites. Not one was assocated with a business.

Yahoo! doesn't even want you to submit a form on their network unless you have $300 in the bank and a valid credit card number.

I remember when Yahoo! was a friendly directory. Then again, AltaVista was a power to be reckoned with those days as well.

Last Week. 05/26/03

It only took two weeks from the time I submited it. They also sent me an email tell me that it was going to be included and where to look for it.

And my site only went live on May 5th, 2003. I guess it is the luck of the draw.

Just to be sure, and I'm not doubting you, this was the Yahoo directory, and not Yahoo's Geocities members directory?

It can still be done:-

(2much's posting from page 1)

I submitted a site about 3 months ago to both yahoo.com and asia.yahoo.com It didn't get listed.

Then I tried again to asia.yahoo.com about 3 weeks ago. It got listed in 10 days. They even sent a confirmation email!

Yes, it was the main directory.

But as you might have notice the directory results don't always show up in the search feature. And I say always because one moment they are their and the next they aren't.

Now not the google listings, the yahoo directory listing. Very Odd.

I won't even go into the google listings and searches here.
Too messed up to talk about right now.
