what are your experiences with "back" referals? Referals from many pages deep into a search result. Like 50+.

Are these more qualified? Searches must have looked far. Do you think these are just title scans or systematic checks of each page?

This hit I just got was for a single keyword, makign my site almost certainly irrelevant cos it's national to a small country (so the country name should be in the search).

What are your thoughts?

<guessing>
Your serp snippet contained the exact word they wanted. 50+ sites before you did not.</guessing>

almost certainly irrelevant

A user not skilled in search still knows what they are looking for...

in general it's you/codesigner i find :D
ie, in the search for some new SERPS to cheer up your morning, you get down to number 88, click it (absent mindedly), and oooops, looks like you got hit for it as well! :D

Well, I don't think I'll reveal a great secret, teh word was silkscreen which is strange enough. The point beeing I'm a highly local site, and te country name is all over the title, so I can't why somebody would want t ogo tehre without puttign the country name in the search in the first place...

And it's not the first time...

The other day I made a search and Yahoo returned 100 results. It's easy to scroll down and get to the end of the list, so maybe that's how.

There is also a good chance that they didn't find you through your primary keyword/keyphrase.

They could have done a search for something that was related to your site, but worded perfectly enough to bring up a page from your site at the top of those results.

This happens often to us. Check your logs, and if you have a stats pack that tracks that domain's SE inbounds and terms then it may reveal an overlooked phrase.

I make at least one really sweet, well-weighted page for any new term I see come across my logs. Over a year, you should see a gradual, but fairly noticable rise in unique sessions.

WEll I looked up the referer, that's how I came up with silkscreen. I still have to implement more carefull session trackign to be able to tell if they stck around and checked all teh silkscreen printers in the directory (and hopefull found what they were looking for).
