No Yahoo search results unless the Directory is clicked?

Paid site submitted only shows if "Directory" is clicked?

Hi all,

I have successfully submitted my site to Yahoo Express and
it was accepted about 4 weeks ago.

My site is displayed in the search results on MSN with
"<my keywords>" as #3 in list.

But if I perform the same search in Yahoo it will NOT show up UNLESS I click on the "Directory" link in the top left of results page!

This is true for even the domain name as a search!

Why is this? Did i do something wrong in my submission
to Yahoo to get this virtual Black list effect?

Thanks to anyone who can help,

rmarino

For non directory searches, Y! uses Google results, so if you don't show up in G you won't show up in Y!

Hi, Rmarino. They made this change months ago, and it greatly reduced the value of Yahoo directory listings.

I'm holding onto the hope that Yahoo will once again display directory listings in a somewhat more prominent manner. Even an Adwords-type display off to the side would be better than the current setup. They will clearly lose revenue from directory submittal/renewal fees if the current situation continues. The real question is how to incorporate the directory listings without reducing the quality of search results. We'll see...

optimse your key pages for Google (which you can learn here) then ensure you have quality links from high pr value google sites linking to you. you will then appear in Yahoo search results and Google as well. If you do this your site will do very well.

Good advice, Tony, at least until Yahoo dumps Google results.

I think the real issue is that non-savvy webmasters get sucked into paying $300 for a Yahoo listing without being informed that this listing will never appear in a standard Yahoo search. I have to believe that only a tiny, tiny fraction of Yahoo users have any clue as to what the "Directory" link does, or have even noticed that it was there.

You know, I heard about the directory change months ago too. But I've been seeing directory results coming up in the Y serps mixed in with Google results. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

For instance, I do a search for my main keyword phrase and I receive:

1. Three Overture Results
2. One Google result (competitor at #1)
3. My Y directory listing (I'm at #2)
4. Another competitor's Y directory listing.

Martninbuster - you are seeing pure google results, but if the site has a Y! listing, this is what is displayed in the serps rather than what Google would show. It's just a cosmetic difference. The results are the same.

Doh! You're right! That explains everything...

This is one of the 'benefits' that Yahoo are claiming a dirctory listing still has. But if you're nr 2 in the SERPs anyway, I'm not sure the fee quite justifies it...

Thanks for the expert advice!

I thought i was ripped off in someway, now i know exactly
how! Yahoo has become a poor investment for web marketing
and they owe its customers a REFUND!

I will optimize my pages for google and get external site
links.

Is there a link to the "Google Optimization" you can recommend?

thanx to all!
