I dont think i can label my site here so lets just say, go to msn and search for buy <snip> and ill be 9&10 listings. These listings are not bringing in the "bacon" so to speak. Not that i expect them to, all of my returns are generated through ppc goto advertising. I however see a huge gap in search engine results where my product fits in perfectly, but as many before and many will to come, i am sitting in the 4-6 month window of being reviewed by the search engines. So i have decided that i want to buy a directory listing in yahoo, the search term(s) im targeting get between 1k and 6k searches per month according to overture search term tool. On these terms there are currently 5 competing sites with Y directory listings (probably many more to come). I feel that my site offers more then all but one of these sites which i will soon remedy. In case your still in the dark about my product, i am a pharmacy affiliate with a relatively new and soon to be popular product. I see huge potential for this business and while there is probably room for me and my competitors in this market, i feel that burning desire to get this out there and working for me. I know i can see success, but on what level? If .80 a day would bring in 10 visitors a day it would be more efficient then my ppc advertising. So where does this leave me. Desperate for some expert advice. Should i dive in with a effort ot corner this market or take it slow and risk watching this raw market be pillaged by high startup companies buy their way to success. Sorry this is so long, but i think everything should be factored into this decision.

Hello stx140, and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Being in business involves risk. If are are in the pharmacy affiliate business, you can bet that other affiliates will not hesitate to buy a Y! directory listing if the product does get rolling.. Roll the dice IMHO.

Yeah I'd go for it. Especially if there aren't many other sites for that product - the earlier you get in, the better.

Are you saying your business expansion is being restricted by not wanting to make an annual $299 investment?

Im saying that this early in the business, i am skeptical about everything i do, and I want to know as much as possible before dropping 3 bills on Yahoo! when thats more then i spend in 3 months on overture. I fear that this business will fail, I know it can succeed, but i keep reading about how to generate web traffic yet i have seen no real results from what ive done, granted, i have not paid for any inclusions or waited nearly long enough to get a listing naturally.

Last I heard, the Yahoo directory did not list affiliate sites. They would take your money, and review your site. They wouldn't give you a listing or an apology -- since they told you up front they wouldn't list such sites.

If competitive _affiliate_ sites are listed (against the guidelines), you can probably get them de-listed by notifying Yahoo quality control people.

"Last I heard, the Yahoo directory did not list affiliate sites."

That's not true - I have over 25 sites that were accepted into the Paid inclusion directory and they are all affiliate sites. If the content is good, it'll be accepted. They won't accept link and banner farms though. But it doesn't matter now - they're not getting any traffic anymore no way since they scrapped the directory. Thousands $$ down the toilet!
