The other discussion was to old now, so I start a new.

I talked with some about how to get in the most popular section. Now I do think it have something to do with how many comes to your site through yahoo, maybe combined with a page review, but I can tell you Im in now in the most popular section.

jump to 'popular listing' from non popular? You mean the popular listing will change?

I haven't notice this before. If their algo is base on how many ppl click on a link, it is quite rediculous as it is for sure more people will clikc on 'popular listing'. So they will become more popular and more popular, how could other sites affort to challege? Zeus, you are lucky for your case.

I think yahoo should discount the clicks count for popular listing so it would give a chance for new site apearring in the popular list.

I have allways wanted how to get in the popular section in the category, so I have often looked for changes and I have noticed that some sites start in the popular section, that was a little wird, but I have now jump to the popular section and the site have about 330.000 visits a month, but I just want to chare it here so we can figure out how it works, it can also have other reasons to get there maybe how many have my site in there "my Yahoo" site.

would it not have to do with how many sites link to that particular site?

I just noticed an information site of mine received 460 referals from the directory yesterday! That's just from the directory listing page, not from searches.

Then I checked it's ranking, #2 in most popular. Then I checked all of my sites that are in the directory.

They all are in the most popular section and most of them are ranked #1.

Doing a quick review it looks like the most popular section is based on PR to some extent. And not on clicks....

I too think that this has nothing to do with clicks. Could it be that the popular section is based on the number of incoming links a site has?

In one of my sites categories, the Most Popular list was constant for over a year. My site was not among them, despite substantial evidence that my site gets a lot more traffic than at least half of those listed (by "traffic", I mean in general, not necessarily Yahoo click-throughs).

But today, I noticed that all of the Most Popular section has been refreshed (and I'm in it), so it seems this is a broad update.

Yes, some of my categories have been updated as well, for the first time in a LONG time.

I know have a bunch of sites listed! Cool.

Personally, I think it's a combination of PR and lenght of time in the directory - they are some of my oldest sites.

I too have been trying to figure out how to get in and after checking today noticed that I'm now in it and 3rd on the list. Looking at my traffic logs, it must have happened either 25 Jan or 26 Jan and my guess is 26 Jan - yesterday.

My site has only been live since the beginning of November. My Yahoo directory listing went live the end of November. So its not length of time online that got me in it.

All of the sites within the most popular category have the same PR. From what I remember of the most popular, there are a few new ones to the category and several that have been there for awhile. I can't remember if any have been dropped, but I do think there have been.

My site is only in Yahoo dir. 6 month so I dont think so and about the PR maybe my has PR6, about the incomming links before I had 460 but now 126 so I dont think that has something to do with it.

I just got 5 sites bumped up to the "Most Popular" section last week. Funny thing is, they are all up for renewal within 2-3 weeks.

I have a couple hundred sites all around, and these are the first ever for me to get bumped up...
And the same thing happened to a friend..
Coincidence?
