hi jabber!

you can give the search engines a hint, that you're there. a very nice example of this is gigablast [gigablast.com]. go to the homepage, click on 'add a url' and enter your sites main urls (adresses). it'll take from some seconds up to a minute and you can search in the gigablast search engine for your site.

and that is the principle of many search engines - but they are not that fast ;-). first of all, surf to google and add your urls there [google.com], too. then in the next days, the google crawlers may visit your pages and explore them. then it will even take some time, until you can search on google for your page.

you can do the same with yahoo and many others, some (like yahoo) trie to get money out of you for letting you announce your pages in their directory. a free directory is dmoz for example, but you can't add yourself fast into it, by paying for your urls.

Ask other sites with content related to yours for a link.
Since those are probably online for much loinger, they already have been spidered by the searchengines. Next time a spider/robot visits those sites, it picks up the link to your site and also spiders that.
If you cannot wait that long and need instant results, there are still the paid listing in Yahoo (gets you into their directory within a week if you are accepted (no money back)) or the pay per click engines like Overture etc where you have to bid on your keywords.

Good luck and have a good start.
