$299 to get listed in Yahoo!

seems outrageous, but is it worth it?

I can buy ALOT of advertising space with $299 on various sites around the web.

My question is, is it better to spend my money getting listed in Yahoo? (The "free, no guarantee" get listed alternative doesn't seem to be working.)

I guess 1 key difference is that your $299 will "expire" after a while, if you buy CPM or PPC advertising and that your Yahoo will listing will stay there... for a long time, if not forever.

For people experienced in this subject, which do you think is better in the long-term? Does getting listed in Yahoo really help bring mega-hits to your site? Or help with your Google pagerank or anything?

Thanks :)

Yahoo submission is now $299 every year.

One more thing to consider is that Yahoo still defaults to Google search and that $299 may be much better investment if that default is a YH/Ink combination...

It will help with raise your PR, and it will likely increase traffic. In many cases I think YH traffic is industry specific. Customers in some sectors are more likely to dig through the directory for the information they want....

Looking at some stats, the only sites that are worth it for us are sites that we can get listed in a category that is returned on top of the SERP's and the site can be listed on top (either as most popular or alphabetically).

Most everything else isn't worth it for us anymore.

Thanks for replies, Shakil, Quinn.

Wow! $299 a YEAR! That changed my mind right there. Didn't know it was yearly fee now.

I can understand that if your site is making like $500 a day from your Yahoo listing that the cost would be well worth it.

But I don't run a online store, just a music fan site, with one little ad, that if im lucky makes me about $5 a day.

So in my case, probably not a good investment.

Thanks again for help. :)

"just a music fan site"

If your a non commercial site you can still get into Yahoo for free. It might take a while, but you have nothing to lose.

Been playing that waiting game for atleast about 6 months now, seth ;P

Wouldn't that be great though, if you could get your non-commercial site listed, without paying the $299!

I think I'll pay the $299, the day i open a commercial site, that can make real money by selling stuff, rather than the site that i have now that relies on revenue from ad's.

I wonder if its possible to somehow "become friends" with someone "behind the scenes" at Yahoo. ;P

Then when your friends, be like "hey dude, ive got a site, can you hook it up?" ;)

Nah, i guess that would be like a supermodel marrying an old man, for his money.

Anna Nicole Smith knows what im talkin about. ;P

I've never really dealt with non-commercial sites but is there any way to get the site in through YH .ca, .sg., .hk, .uk, or .au?

Or does it all end up at the same editor?

If you make $500 a day then a .80 a day investment is worth it? LOL.

Again, these posts get me shaking my head. If you make $1 a day, then an .80 a day investment is worth it.

Not sure I know too many companies that would consider 80% of profit a reasonable marketing cost percentage...

I believe you have a lot higher chance of getting your non commercial site listed for free (in a resonable time frame) if you go through a country specific Yahoo site. Obviously, it would need to be the country you reside in. It's also posiible to get commercial sites in for free in some countries. I think Yahoo in some countries need to build the amount of sites they have in the country specific directory.

I think if you make anywhere from 3-4 times your yearly fee this is good. I'm not sure anybody expects $500 a day from a $299 listing! After all you can scale up, reinvest, etc...heck, even making double your money on a large enough will make you a millionaire in no time!
