I have tried getting listed in Yahoo for about 18 months now for free (in New Zealand it costs over $600NZD to get listed in Yahoo with our exchance rate) with no luck under the category "Home > Regional > Countries > New Zealand > Society and Culture > Weddings"
I was originall told that as long as it was not a business category (ie shopping) that I should be able to get listed. I have spoken to other sites it this category and they did not pay for there listings.... am I doing something wrong, or does Yahoo not accept free listings from small business sites?
Your help would really be appreciated as we are a regionalised market and $600 is alot of money down under (my site is listed in my profile).
Sorry this is my first post here so I hope that I am not over stepping any boundaries.
Thank you
Nice site. One issue that came up for me is that my instinct was to think it was Commecial. Is there a reason why Yahoo would see it as a commercial site?
Also, what Yahoo have you been submitting to. I've had some luck submitting to asia.yahoo.com and yahoo.co.uk Did you try submitting to au.yahoo.com?
The final reason could be that your site doesn't validate with older browsers. Have you checked that your site validates on a MAC with netscape 2.0?
I hope this helps.
I don't know why Yahoo sees me as commercial as I'm not making any money, wish that I was though.
I Have tried au.yahoo.com but with no luck, but if I did get listed using asia.yahoo.com does this mean that I am listed in the main Yahoo?
Is anybody able to please try my site out on a mac using netscape 2.0 and tell me if it works.
Thanks heaps
They think that the site is commercial. You have contact information for a company which is the same name as the web site, so they are viewing the site as commercial.
I think that you'll have a tough time getting this in for free regardless of the fact that the content is informative, and there is no direct ordering system.
