Can a site get into the Yahoo directory without paying? -for ex: by being listed in Yahoo picks. Or do they make the picks from only from the sites that pay to be included in the directory?

TIA,

The majority of sites listed in Yahoo are unpaid.

As for your own site... it depends greatly on whether it is a commercial or uncommercial site.

Even business sites can be added without paying the BizEx fee, but it's rare. Your site would need to be extremely unique and provide a great deal of value to the category. More often, free listings get added by editors seeking to round out an under developed or new category, not from submissions.

The Yahoo Picks page doesn't seem to have a way to suggest a site. Any suggestions on how to do this. Is there an email address?

You can find all you need to know on the Yahoo Picks Help Page. [help.yahoo.com]

Today I got the e-Mail from Yahoo! This is a category that is paid only unless ya remove the +Local at the URL then it has the option for free submission also. So I get the e-mail

Hi,
The URL you suggested

<url:http:// >

has been added to Yahoo! Its still possible to get into yahoo without paying, I submitted this about 2 weeks ago. At the bottom of the email it says basicly, to return the favor place a link to Yahoo on your site. heh i didnt :D

I submitted my site to the Yahoo! directory about three weeks ago. I've not heard anything yet, but I understand they have quite a backlog.

If I suggest my site to Yahoo! Picks, could that prejudice my chance of getting a directory listing? (Could Yahoo! view two submissions for the same site as spam?)

Thanks,
Nick
