Over 12 months your yahoo listing will tend to percolate so that you appear in google and other searches, etc... What happens if you don't renew after 12 months? Will your placement in google fall? Most people don't find your listing by searching the directory anyway.

Well, the results in Yahoo are supposed to be a mix of Google and Yahoo, but appear to be more Google.

So, if you are ranked well with Google, you could do alright for a while without being in Yahoo!. But, being in Yahoo will help your PageRank in Google and hence your findability. Therefore, I would want to continue in Yahoo.

Also, who knows what will happen in 2 months, 6 months or longer. I wouldn't want to risk things changing back to Inktomi or some hybrid mix of results. Therefore, same thing, would want to stay in Yahoo! for the time being until it could be proven that it isn't necessary.

Somehow, I doubt that Yahoo! is going to let their business be destroyed by people deciding they don't need to be in the Directory anymore. They are smart folks.

Well, that's my 2 cents anyway.

Also, another advantage is that people seem to be relying on the "More Sites About" red arrow, so it actually may generate decent traffic.

$300 is easy to make in 1 year, and may generate a lot more than that in sales.

Also, the other pro's that Terry mentioned.

My belief is that Yahoo has decided the directory isn't worth it and are phasing it out. The directory is just a small part of Yahoo.

In my opinion, what we are seeing now is the start of an gradual outphasing of directory results. That`s one of their reasons for mixing the search results between GG and Yahoo`s own directory. Later they may also take on other search partners like Ink. and Fast to "broaden" their search base.

How can it be explained that my yahoo listed site gets maybe 100 hits a day (before that zero) if we are to believe the directory is becoming less useful. In other words, how the heck is Yahoo delivering these hits to my listed site, obviously a Yahoo listing has SOME sort of effect otherwise who would go for it?
