Should a submission of the actual listing in Yahoo be submitted to the other search engines for the purpose of link popularity or is this something that will happen readily anyway? will a submittal speed the process if it will happen automatically anyway?

No. Most of the engines won't read into yahoo. There are two that do (or have in the past). Inktomi did last summer, and Google routinely spiders or has direct access to the database on yahoo.

AltaVista is showing the Yahoo directory page where my site is listed on the SERP of my main keyword phrase. I am not sure if it is because I submitted this page last October or it was already there, in any case, they respidered it when my site was included in Oct. A search for host:dir.yahoo.com on Alta brings up pages modified as late as Nov. 23, 2000 as far as I can tell.

Just FYI. Tried to submit a directory listing in Yahoo! to Alta Vista and got a "not allowed by robots.txt" error.
