Experimenting with YPN

Making the switch from AS...

Hello All,
I am new to both WebmasterWorld and YPN. I've just started switching from AdSense to YPN but wonder how long it will take for targeting to begin. I went through my site and the ads were not even close to my content so I went ahead and used the Ad Targeting tool. Now I'm wondering if I should I have waited a little longer before doing this. I am a bit spoiled by AS targeting so perhaps I jumped the gun. Should I have been more patient in waiting for targeted ads? How long must I wait? Btw, mine is a fairly common subject and I know they have advertisers...

It has been my experience that once you use Ad Targeting - revelant ads will show up within that hour.

You may want to refresh/reload your browser a few times after you have setup Ad Targeting.

Ad Targeting really helps in the process of receiving relevant ads. You may also want to use your Block List to filter our ads you don't want. I have found that once you do this, more relevant ads begin to appear almost immediately.

Unless you hav been banned from adsense I say put it back. I waited 2 weeks with no targeted ads and in constant contact with yahoo. I had adsense on some pags and YPN on others. I told yahoo, look at the adsense the ads should be like that! They "appreciated my suggestions" and kept reiterating they were in beta etc. etc. I could only get ads for loans and cable providers on my health site. Their "ad targetting" feature gave me general health ads but not targetted to my niche and thus no clicks. (well 1)

I removed ad targeting after an hour or so to see what happened overnight. Some pages are targeted. Most are not. So I guess I'll keep ad targeting after all. It's a pain because it is time consuming (I have several areas) and ads are very general.

I've blocked several urls and the ads just keep coming. I think the FAQ says 1-2 days so I'll try to be patient but I'm also getting the mortgage and cable ads. Not good at all for my site. I'll be lucky to get any clicks with those.

I haven't been banned from AS. As I said, I'm experimenting. I had one click from Yahoo yesterday and it has brought in much mnore than any single AS click I've gotten to date. I think I'll try to stick it out a while longer.

Are you sure those aren't the run of network ads? You can't block those. They are equivelent to PSAs except you earn money from them.

I have had a little more luck than MediaSpree and less luck than grodt. It took about 4-5 days for the targeting to kick in for most of my content areas. For those 4-5 days our AdSense revenue tanked and YPN revenue was very small because of the lack of targeting.

Then we put our thinking caps on and when we add YPN to a new content area we assign about 1/10th of impressions to YPN. We wait until we see targeted YPN ads then increase their impressions to 50%.
