Things YPN Needs to Improve

Let's list things here to help YPN to Improve

Let's list some things here that YPN representatives can read and know what needs to be done to improve as quick as possible.

1. Ad Targeting
2. Fast crawling
3. To show ads more than one color pallet
4. Ability to edit or delete custom color pallets.
5. Link Units
6. Possibly some faster updates of reports.

Having said this, Ad targeting is number one priority for me. Presently id does some, but I need to refresh the page in order to get the right ads. How many readers will refresh the page when they go to a website? Perhaps none.

Many thanks. Please add your points and let's haelp YPN's friendly staff to imrpove faster. Yest, I say friendly, because the telephone calls and the emails were handled in the kindliest manner.

I would also add to this list

Show fewer ads in a given ad unit
160-600 has 5 ads, perhaps 4 is great or sometimes even 3.

Create a new 468-60 unit size and show only one ad.

I add yet one more.

Let the description and the title of any ad be complete.

Do not accept titles or description that are not complete and have the ... sign. This does not leave a good impression on the reader.

For example. Have something like

Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms
Find information and necessary tools to help to go through your pregnancy.

Not like

Pregnancy signs and...
Find information and necessary tools to help to go through...

Lok carefully .. the custom color pallette functionality is already there.

That's right, but once you create something, you can't change that anymore. Or you can't edit or delete you custom color pallet.

At least, I don't see how you can do that.

I realize that for YPN the number one issue is the targeting.

However, link units - that are in high demand and are popluar. Are they easier to create?

Would be great if Link Unit ads would come out as soon as possible.

I would like YLinks and YSearch.

As well... something really is going weird with YPN. One day I make more than what I thought I would in a month, then about 6 days later I barely make what I usually do in an hour or two... weird...

So... definately faster reporting and fixing of whatever crazy is going on...

YahooSarah once you improve the targeting (since that's the number one thing) please consider Ylinks. Link units. Those perform great.

For better targeting consider something like this.

Section targeting or section omitting.

For example, in the websites we have navigational sections that are not related directly to the content of the page. Let's say the article is about Heart Atack but I have a navigation anchor link to a Hair Loss page. These are not related directly.

So if you could come up with something that would say

<overture.ypn omit this - start>

Navigation and anything that is not related to the text of the page.

<overture.ypn omit this - end>

What do you think guys? This would help your crawling and indexing system to know what to crawl and what NOT to crawl.

In other words let the webmasters tell you what is the content in a page and what is not. You would end up with a closer targeting.

Faster payout. 45 days is far too long. If you begin counting from the first day of the month, it turns into 75 days.

I am a Fastclick affiliate and they pay 20 days after the end of the month. G pays in 30. Why should Yahoo take longer? If thye want to win this, pay out in 20 days. It may sound silly (maybe mot), but getting a check on the 20th improves ones financial position before the end of the month, which is a critical time for many.

Y and G have to start treating their customers with more respect and dignity. That goes for all major corporations.

Another growing player in the market Contextweb pays net 15 days after the month.

So YPN's 45 days is little long time.

I think the payout is pretty standard with the industry and not too long at all.

You start counting from the end of the month that was completed.

- Faster Payout (One of the reasons we didn't initially change was because of the extra 15 days we had to wait...Hmm, I don't have any affiliate program that pays later than 30 days, thought 30 was standard)

- Auto Deposit

- Real Time Stats / Channel reporting (waiting 24 hours now and could use it for testing purposes)

- Link units ( this was a big hitter on our site with Adlinks)

- Fix the bug which requires refresh to see relevent ads.

- That's it for now!

An option to change your password would be nice.

I'm not sure if this is the case still or maybe it was just my browser (Firefox 1.05), but when I tried to register, I was limitted to under 10 letters for both the username and password (maybe it was 9 letters).

So, I think they should allow longer usernames/passwords (if they aren't permitted already) and as someone else stated, the ability to change the password. Something else may be the ability to change usernames once longer usernames are permitted (if they aren't already).

Targeting is the key to this whole thing. A lot of the ads are not even close.

I think the 45 payout is a BETA issue. I'll be surprised if it doesn't shorten to 30 days once they launch YPN as a finished product. It makes sense that they might want that extra 15 days as a cushion to work out payment bugs. Nothing could wreck their program like having big problems early on with late payments.

They need to allow more specific categories when trying to get targeted ads. For example, choosing "Professional Services : Legal Services" starts displaying ads for B2B related legal services ("we build sites for lawyers" or "we can market your legal website"), but no ads for what would truly be legal services. This obviously also falls under the desire for better ad targeting.

First day with YPN, and wow! are the ads are all over the place, from loans to online degrees to credit cards, basically all the spammy ads you see all over the Interwebs, just not animated flash banners, but text including ... dot dot dot at the end of every ad title. My site is music related, not even close Yahoo!.

I never have wanted public service ads to show up on my pages until now. I don't care how much these ads pay, even if they are 5 dollars a click, I hope targetting improves tomorrow or it will be a quick test and back to adSense.

same here, but I think even the signup lit says it might take a couple days for targeting. definitely different from adsense in that regard. but...so is the fact that they seem to be carefully screening who gets in. it took about one and a half months for me to get into ypn. also they state that the 45 days to get paid is related to discerning legitimate from invalid clicks.

here's the thing. i don't mind if ypn moves slower in all regards than adsense. as long as they keep their publisher network ad system focused on quality--which is better for advertisers and, hopefully, better for publishers in terms of payouts.

I agree with the issue of dot dot dot ... after each title.

I was running the 160-600 size and the YPN repesentative said that if I run a larger format the dots would not appear.

Well, they should fix this so it shouldn't matter which format I run. They should not allow longer titles, but as short a title which conforms with all the sizes. Look how Adsense does. you see a short title and a short description.

No dots.

I hope this can be fixed very quickly.
