Are tags in sidebars a bad idea?

Help me with a question. I use 20 tags in the sidebar (Articles and categories) in WordPress. Do you consider this ok or bad from your experience? If it is bad, can you argue please? Thank you!

Hi daniel1213 and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

As for your question, you can use as many tags as might serve your goals, but I definitely would not index any tag pages as they are all duplicate content as found in pages and categories. Stick to one way to index your content.

Thank you! I was referring to that widget called "Seo Tag Cloud Widget" which is located in the sidebar area. Do you recommend giving it up? Thank you very much!

Sorry, that is a WP plugin and we don't do plugin reviews here. You can read plugin reviews at Wordpress.org Plugins Repository: [webmasterworld.com...]

It is helpful to read the Charter [webmasterworld.com] ;)

From a maintenance viewpoint the fewer plugins the better. Only you can determine if any plugin is actually beneficial to your website. However, as not2easy suggests you are not likely to get an seo boost as these things are a duplicate navigation crutch that g has deprecated (or has problems with).

It's your choice, but using tags is also a bad idea anymore. John Mueller said in 2021 that's not necessarily.
