Show Last Modified date in SERP

How can I get the Last Modified date in the SERP?

Hi all,

I have a question about Last Modified date. Is it possible to show the Last Modified date in Google SERP, instead of the published date? I'm updating old blogs on my website (say from 2015 - 2017) and want Google to pickup the Last Modified date. To show people that my blog is updated with the latest content and (scientific) information.

I use the Wordpress plugin WP Last Modified Info, but Google still shows the original publish date in the SERP. Does anyone have a good idea on how to 'fix' this?

PS. I am using the Tempera theme by Cryout Creations and Yoast SEO plugin.

@MarvinG ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

I put the LAST UPDATED as a line either below the page title, or the previous copyright. Seems to do the trick. G and other SEs however, do know the last modified date from server data, but do NOT publish it the serps. (Not to my knowledge at any rate).

@tangor

Thanks for your response.
That's what I used to do indeed; just add the last updated date by hand in the blogpost (just below the title).

But that's only visible when you actually read the blog. I think some people rather click on a SERP result with a recent date than on a result with older date. Because they think the newer blog provides the best and most actual information. Therefore I wanted to get Google to show the last updated date. But search engines will not publish this you think?

Sometimes they do, sometimes not. I personally do not know of a way to FORCE such a date change... other than making it part of the the H1 title

Was:
Fancy Widgets

Now:
Fancy Widgets (updated xx/xx/xx)

That will certainly work ... just looks ugly.

Okay, I understand your point. Thanks again! :)

Putting it in the H1 is ugly indeed. Want it to be more subtle haha.
