Help with posts displaying in categories

Can anyone advise... I am unsure how to do it...

Without going into the whys and wherefores...

Is it possible - ie after a date if possible - although that is an extra) - to have a post remain within a category - so that it retains the 'breadcrumb' of the category on the actual post, BUT the post doesn't display on the category page?

ie is this possible - don't display posts in a category after today's date

We had a similar issue on pubcon website where we didn't want to show posts from an older conference.

We used a plugin (Category Posts Widget) [wordpress.org...]

I was able to hack around on it and get it to filter off a date. I started with this tutorial: [sktthemes.net...]
