Roll Back from 5.0

I can't remember how to roll back to a previous release, reason is I have to update my site daily or many times a day, the editor does not any longer allow for editing in view mode and I have to scroll down on html coded page to find where i need to update and doing it by typing html. Not the easy way for a simple task!.
Further I use WP recipe maker which also no longer connect directly with the editor so I have to manually create a link for every new recipe published in order to make it visible
I need badly to roll back to the older version

The easiest way would be to use one of the plugins built for going back to a previous version. I have not used either plugin shown at WP.org, but there is WP Downgrade plugin, last updated a year ago and WP Rollback plugin, last updated 6 months ago. I'm not recommending either one, as I mentioned I have never used either one. The alternative is to download and follow their instructions to DIY.

Only caution I can add is there is a reason for the updates, usually related to security. If your site is NOT a normal target for scrapers, scammers, or hackers---and the edit function lost is that important---you might be okay to go backwards to regain a previous editing function. Otherwise I strongly recommend you do NOT do it.

Thanks all ! My site is not targeted by bad guys, once a while scrapper for unique content, but not that bad.
I am going to keep it as is for the present time (a few weeks) and wait and see, later if no improvement I'll try to roll back.

I'm sure v 5.1 will be out quite soon and i'd like to think it'll solve at least some of these issues. Having upgraded, you might want to be patient and wait.

Try downloading and activating the official WP Classic Editor plugin. That might solve some of the quirky behavior and compatibility issues.

Thanks I actually did it, the last version 1.2 is said to be the last one, on editor's site it shows two tabs "visual" and" text"
but mine only display "text" ?
EDIT: I tried to remove it and did a fresh install same result, I believe the 1.2 has a bug that does no longer allow for "visual"

Are you using a caching plugin?
If so you might need to refresh all caches and also minify all JavaScript. It sounds like something that's supposed to be there to support your editing is missing. That could be an issue related to caching plugins.

Are you using the latest version of PHP?
Not sure if that would affect it, but worth a try.

Done all of that, thanks for the suggestions.
I will wait for the updated editor, thinking TinyMCE could also be the problem as it is the editor's "engine"?

Maybe the supporting JS is interfering?

When was the last time you backed up the site? If you have one with the older version, just note all changes since then (to insert later) and just reload that older version.

Aside: one more reminder to keep backups of each major change to your site(s)!
