Notice with Wordpress stores you can now choose languages.

I have in the past used en-IN or English (India). I do see English Australia, English UK, etc but not India.

Will I have to wait for Wordpress to add this option or is it possible for me to pay for a language package elsewhere and add it?

It doesn't look like there's even an en-IN team yet

Might be a long wait

Thanks for the link. I figured it was going to be a long wait.

Would there be a difference between en-IN and, say British English? There's not many differences between Canadian English and British English, American English or Australian English. Most Canadians are quite familiar with all these subtle differences.

Do Indians speak a specific dialect of English?

Even if there is no difference, the benefit of having "en-IN" would be to enable targeting content (and advertising) to specific regions. Google uses the rel="alternate" hreflang="en-IN" tags to sort traffic to their browser preferences.

You can also submit language data via sitemap and/or headers if not via meta tags. The guidelines for using hreflang tags [support.google.com] is helpful.

Oh yes indeed, and it's not just the pronunciation. There will be calques from whatever your primary language is, in addition to the shared calques from Hindi (whether or not that's your primary language), and some words are used a little differently. But using en-UK should not create any purely linguistic problems.
