Can't See Post Content in Edit Mode

I'm working on a site with some very old posts (7-10 yrs), and am finding some odd behavior. The person editing these old posts (to fix image and other issues) can view the post with no problem on the web. But, click the "Edit Post" link, and the content area is blank. Nothing there. And, if I (admin) view the post in edit mode at that point, it's blank too.

Obviously, the post content exists in the database, since it's viewable on the Web.

Anyone seen anything like this? Could it be some permissions weirdness (Editor vs Admin)?

Recently some changes were made so that people could allow other (outsourced help) to post, but not edit existing content. That's where I would look first, under Settings > Users I believe.

In the Visual Editor try clicking to "Text" mode then right back to "Visual" mode.

It could have something to do with the theme (is it old as well?) or plugins. There is no reason for older not to display otherwise. Any shortcodes in the post for old or outdated plugins?

I had a similar problem with an old VBulletin site. After almost tearing what liitle hair I have left out I traced it to a character encoding problem.

Any post that contained a character not in the Latin-1 character set would display normally but would disappear in the edit screen. Characters like é caused the problem.

How old is the theme?

I had a site that used a third-party them and it stopped allowing edits of the posts after a articular recent wordpress core upgrade.

Just inactive all plugins of your WordPress site and then check the posts/pages again. If you find posts/pages okey, then active plugins one by one. There may be problem with plugins or theme.
