[wordpress.org...]
Version 4.0 of WordPress, named 'Benny' in honor of jazz clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman

New interface for plugins, media, and an upgrade to embedding media like YouTube videos. I'm still upgrading sites but will take it for a spin soon.

I'm working on a site retheme, so figure it's a good time to try the upgrade while I'm working on a dev copy.... we'll see how it goes. I usually don't do major version upgrades until the x.1 version comes out.

Everything seems to work. I have a lot of stuff on the test site
- chat app
- contact form with popup calendar widgets
- lightbox gallery
- Twenty Fourteen theme with several customization plugins
- a few other maintenance plugins

Everything seems to have upgraded without a hitch.

Just noticed the "Set Featured Image" feature. Is that new or just part of the Twenty Fourteen theme?

I have beta tested version 4.0 on localhost and the experience was pretty good, even with the few bugs that came with the beta4.

I'm glad to see it released. :)

My dashboard (and everything else) loads faster with the new version.

Looked into it and realized that the Set Featured Image feature has been in WP for quite some time. It's just more prominent in the media manager in WP4

I've had really good experiences with the last few major upgrades of WordPress. No issues. I use customized child-themes and typically have about a dozen plugins or less.

I should have been more precise - I'm using a child theme of Twenty Fourteen. I decided it's gotten pretty good and if any theme will survive upgrades, the Twenty series would probably top the list.
