Is there a way to show an advertisement "below the fold" but above the footer area automatically sitewide?

Is there either:

1) A plugin that will allow me to insert some advertising code automatically in posts sitewide after, say, two paragraphs (without having to add by hand to each post), or...

2) Some sort of javascript / css that will display a HORIZONTAL ad once someone has scrolled a certain number of pixels? (hopefully it wouldn't cover up the content, meaning that the content would make room for the ad.)

I am just tyring to avoid going in and having to hard code ads into the blog posts themselves.

Thanks in advance.

You could do either but they'll both require you to do some editing of the theme's post template file.

Wouldn't be too hard for a PHP programmer to do for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Might even be a plugin out there that does it - I'm sure someone has had a similar need.

There is a plugin called Google AdSense plugin, I have never used it, but it looks current and has over 280,000 downloads. This is not a recommendation, as mentioned I've never used it. I think you might try lorax's suggestion and create a test post template and see how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions.

any idea of what particular php function I might need to use to insert it?

In the meantime, I will look into the adsense plugin as well and see what I come up with.

Thanks in advance.

One consideration about this idea - have you read the discussion about recent changes in quality standards? There is a recent and ongoing discussion here: [webmasterworld.com...] and one of the changes involves this kind of ad placement, now viewed with some disfavor in the instructions to quality raters. I had only one ad showing this way, but I didn't like it when I put it in just a few days before I read that. Whether the information is 100% accurate or not, it agreed with my 'gut feeling' and I took it out. It had been placed halfway down the page content as an experiment. (not on a WP site).

There will likely be several PHP & WordPress functions involved. To many possibilities to list them all here.

@ not2easy:

Yes, I have read that discussion, and am currently reading through the rating guide as well.

My situation might be a little bit different, but then again, maybe not: The "ad" would be for the ecommerce pages on my same site.

@ lorax: thanks for the note about the complexity. I will try and find some other way of doing this then coding myself.
