Are there limits to entries per post type ?

Our developers are saying that they have added all entries into WP but now if they go the dashboard, the post type for the category is not loading for the one post type. We have around 19,000 geographic specific entries. They say it looks like this is too much for Wordpress.

Is that true ? Is there a workaround ?

Whitey, please provide some backstory on this. What exactly to you mean by Post type? Are you referring to Post v Pages? (http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Types) or ?

I was trying to portray a picture of the extent of the pages and their hierarchy, which in this case are :
Category Type>Country>City

I'm not a WP guy... just asking what is the data engine used to host the posts? Curious in this regard... and a bit surprised that any topic can generate 19,000+ posts...

It's being used as a pure CMS, nothing really to do with blogs, although there is a small separate blog section. Hope that makes more sense.
