Wordpress site pages loading twice. why?

I'm not sure why it's happening but my pages seem to load twice. The first time seems to be pretty quick, but then the page goes white for about 2 to 3 seconds then reloads.
Could this be a case of having too many scripts & stylesheets loading upfront?
When checking with a page speed tool it recommends that I leverage browser caching.

Have you scanned your site for malicious code and malware?

Does it happen with all browsers? Even after emptying the cache? Does it come through in logs as two consecutive requests? Page only, or everything?

I haven't recently scanned the site for malicious code or malware. I'll have to try that. I tend to use google chrome, but I've checked the site in a few other browsers today and it doesn't seem to be reloading the pages. Recently I've duplicated the site as I migrate it to new hosting at Go Daddy's new wordpress managed hosting. It seems much faster.

Knowing that you migrated it makes me wonder if you have a redirect issue? Watch the URL the next time it happens and see if it changes.

reinforcing the suggestion by lorax, the behavior you describe is similar to that of a meta refresh element with a delay.
i would try your website with an HTTP Request and Response Headers reporting tool so you know exactly what's happening.
if that doesn't reveal anything interesting i would next study a waterfall chart on the page load.
