Use Pages or Posts For Information-Based Site With Many Categories?

Are POSTS or Pages better for a site that will have lots of informational pages in several categories and subcategories, but would also allow for user comments?

Or does it not matter?

I will have categories and subcategories. I do NOT want any archives by month or tag clouds. I just want old-fashioned hierarchical navigation.

The category level will have text on it and then have links to the subcategories. I would prefer to have text above and below the links to the subcategories.

The subcategory level will have text on it and then links to the posts / pages. Again, there will probably be text both above and below the links.

Would like to show links to the sibling posts / pages in the same subcategory in a sidebar widget.

Thanks in advance.

That's what pages are for. Posts are date based, posts are not.

Thanks for the input Nutter;

I see that POSTS also have built in categorization, while PAGES have subpages.

I guess they are pretty much the same.

So I guess the question is if there is a difference in allowing / moderating / admining comments (and to be honest, I am not 100% sure if PAGES allow comments).

The both allow comments, although I've come across quite a few themes that don't put the comment form on a page by default.

And if you want you can add categories and tags to pages. There are plugins to do it for you if you're not the coding type.

Use Pages. Posts need a category == one step further in the URL structure. Pages are just cleaner and easier to manage for evergreen content.
