Show Blog Navigation Only on Posts Blog Categories?

Replicate Static Site + Blog Instead of Pure Blog Site?

Is it possible to show the blog Category navigation while ONLY on Posts or Category pages? Would prefer not to show it on the home page of the blog nor on the PAGES sections of the blog - just the category and posts section?

I am trying to replicate a "static site plus blog" with wordpress for a local service business.

Most of the emphasis will be on the PAGES section. I would like to have PAGES that would preferably be able to put into subcategories as well. Is it easy / possible to have PAGES in subcategories without a lot of coding?

I would like to show the blog NAVIGATION (i.e., POSTS categories) only when a visitor is on:

1) a blog POST

2) A category page for POSTS

The important thing is to show the the blog categories ONLY when looking at blog POSTS, not when looking at the Pages sections.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Just to clarify a bit:

- The home page would be more-or-less static and would predominately feature static content about the business. Maybe we would have a SMALL area on the home page to "latest posts" but we DON'T want to have the home page showing the posts.

It is important the home page be allowed to have a LOT of static content - but that it isn't too hard to change around should the technology-challenged owner need to update it a bit.

- We COULD use the top navbar and a drop down menu for the different PAGES sections. While I am not a big fan of drop down menus, it could work for us.

any suggestions on themes or frameworks is GREATLY appreciated.

Are these sidebar links that you're after? The Jetpack plugin was just updated with a way to make sidebar widgets only show when they match a criteria. Might be something to look at.

And if Jetpack does it, there's probably a plugin floating around that only does this one thing if Jetpack is too heavy for you.

Hi there, Nutter:

Thanks for the note.

Yes,

I will look into Jetpack.

There appears to be a SIMPLE plugin called widget context that should do the trick. Just installed it and will play around with it in a few hours.

Will let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks again.
