Help modifying my index page

I am developing a news website. but i dont know php. I want to display seven posts from each category on my index page. i want there titles and probably with a thumbnail.

pls is there anyone that can provide me with the codes and steps to do this

There is no one right way to do what you're asking and it somewhat depends upon the theme you're using. You should do some reading here: [codex.wordpress.org...]

Another idea is to use a theme or plugin that will do the job for you.
