Where to go to learn?

I am just now starting to play with wordpress and trying to figure out how to use it as a CMS. as i search google i am fining a lot of information from 2 + years ago. Can anyone point me to a good custom tutorial that can help me in learning how to use this as a good CMS (that hopefully people will not be able to break when they update their sites.) many thanks.

[google.com.au ]

You can restrict Google searches to a date range, but there are hundreds of seemingly identical tutorials and at an introductory level they are probably as good as the next.

You should also look at recommendations of plugins, as that is an important element of running a WP site.

many thanks all.

I have the basics of putting a site together and making it work in wordpress. That part is not bad. Where i am having some issues is when i try to swap over to the visual editor.
Of course the first thing that happens when i swap to the visual is that my page layout is broken there...or does not look like the page when i load it in a browser. This is not a huge deal for me as i work in code, but if i was to be turning this over to a client to update their own site, i am guessing i should not turn them loose in the html mode...or do i and just do really REALLY clear markup and notes? (i am new to wordpress as CMS so please bear with me...i have been using Sureal CMS and am trying to make the change)

the next problem is that wordpress like to add a lot of markup that i do not want, mainly <p> tags that i did not add. I am still searching google for a solution to this but have so far only found a few things that do not work. If i am just missing something simple, please let me know.

Many thanks in advance and thanks for our patience

When you look at the page using the visual mode in the editor, you are using the admin style sheets - not the template's style sheet. I use Preview to check. You can make the visual editor use the style sheet though I've never done it - just read about it.

What markup are you looking to use? Standard HTML?
