Wordpress blog Creation

11:27 pm on Aug 5, 2011 (gmt 0)

I am going to be installing a blog to my site, and i have 2 separate questions i need to ask, i know nothing about hosting or such so please forgive my ignorance

First question is it better to have www.blog.mysite.com or www.mysite.com/blog

and the second question is

My site sits on a server which my I.T wont let me have access to, so i have to rely on them to set up everything including this new blog, they are going to charge me 3 times as much as i could get it hosted elsewhere and a hefty fee to install it to

So as you can imagine im not happy with that and was wondering if i had the www.blog.mysite.com could this be hosted on a separate server to my main site but still function as 1 site

Hope that made sense

My site sits on a server which my I.T wont let me have access to,

Make a copy of the site you have ..( you should have one on your home machine even if you cant FTP into where your site is being held hostage at the moment )..and move it to a real host..then set up your blog in www.blog.example.com..

The www part is optional depending on how the host has the server set up..you only need a simple account with Cpanel ( easy to run point and click interface with easy to understand icons ) somewhere..

Running a site with Cpanel set up isn't rocket surgery..if you can use XP ..you can run your own site..

To answer your 1st question, it's better for you to go with www.mysite.com/blog . The reason is because when you create a subdomain like blog.mysite.com , Google treats that as a separate site. You will have to optimize your site again from the beginning.

But when you set your blog up as a subfolder, then Google considers that as part of your main site.
