Installing WordPress for free?

I'm new to WordPress and I'd like to install a blog on some of my websites.

When I sign up, WordPress shows a $17/year charge to install it on a .com domain.

Isn't there a way to install WordPress on my .com domains for free?

You're not paying for the software, you're paying for the hosting.

If you have website hosting somewhere, then yes, you can download wordpress from wordpress.org and install it on your website hosting account.

Problem is, you're not likely to find a hosting account somewhere for much less than $17/year.

Well I already have a dedicated server so I'm covered as far as hosting. And I found the zip file I need to upload so I think I'm good to go. Thanks!
