Resolving a freeze on MS updates
Works on 8 and 8.1
I searched to figure if I was the only one to get it on my 8.1, and found online some noises about similar problems,
freezing on updates was supposed to be a thing of the past but it still occur.

Here is the fix:
Shut it down
Rem all connections
Rem battery
Press the start button for 10 seconds
Connect the power jack
Start the machine
Shut it off
Replace battery
Reboot, find the updates and load them up again.
If none was previously entered, it will load the whole updates
If some were entered then it will restart from the missing uploads.

This is on PC's as well? Removing the battery on some desktops can be a real chore. Is that a necessary step?

I have an upper level of support with MS, so that is what I was guided to perform on my new laptop running 8 touch and updated (No problem here) to 8.1
so I cannot tell if it works on desktop.

What I found happening on 8.1 is a freeze happening on regular 8.1 updates.

Removing the battery empty the machine of all but vital and saved functions and data.
The 10 sec press on start button drains whatever is left.

Thank for following up on that. I hope it comes in handy to someone experiencing this issue.

I have had similar instructions from MS tech support, but it has been many years since I had to bull the battery from a desktop.
