After reading through the forums for sometime now I some how feel obligated to use Opera as my browser.

I was left scatching my head however when I started Opera and it tried to display the homepage. The site I maintain use's the NT Users sign on to verify that they are from within the department, and displays the site accordingly (or prompts for a user name and password if it fails).

I checked the Opera site and found this....

Networking protocols support
Opera 6 has full support for HTTP 1.0 and HTTP 1.1. Here are some highlights:

  • Persistent connections (multiple request/response through one connection),
  • Cachecontrol for no-cache (always check for fresh document) and no-store (don't save to disk),
  • Basic Authentication (passwords). Supports Digest Authentication, excepting integrity check on body. No current plans to support NTLM,

Why is there no current plans to support the NTLM feature? Have I missed preferences in Opera that would allow these pages to be viewed? Or perhaps there is an easier way to provide security on the site other then NTLM.

NTLM is a proprietary MS protocol so it probably isn't near the top of the TODO list. There are many other authentication schemes, I'd try one that's resonably standard and supported.

I used the NTLM authentication because it doesn't require the user to log onto the site once they have logged onto the network.

Is there another authentication scheme that can be used similar to this?
