Upgrading connectivity

Switching from corporate cable to DSL or Fractional

Hi, I've been thinking of upgrading my connectivity... I currently have a corporate cable modem account... and while I certainly love the uptime, the 24.x.x.x block seems to invite hacks like flies to uhm, flypaper. The $100/month or so is good too.

However, if I'm going to expand my market, a 128 connection will never handle it. While I can bump the thruput up to 1.5 at around $600 a month, I'm also considering DSL or a fractional T. I'm also considering colocating. I'd prefer to have the system local for the various and sundry mods I end up doing, but am also getting tired of dealing with these attempted hacks. I'm a writer by trade and a webadmin by default...

Anyhow, anyone have experience in this type of thing? Have you colo'ed with a positive experience? My biggest fear with colo is that 'the various and sundry' might become a big bill for things I can't handle remotely.
