Java Applet alternatives?

I could use Flash or ActiveX, anything else? Anything new?

I hate Java Applets. So what are my alternatives to using them? I know I can use flash, but is there any .net alternative? I guess CAB files and activeX was the MS alternative last time a checked. But anyone know how .net has twisted that?

I'm not sure .net will change much. This page [stylusinc.com] seems to offer a pretty good description of .net's potential without a lot of hype. It seems with .net you can use about any programming language you prefer...
