Recently I went to download HumanClick, a free live chat service but then I found that it has spyware in the free copy. In order to purchase this without spyware, the cost is $69.95 a month, quite a large addition to monthly expenses. I have also found a company called Real Time Aide who offer live chatware for $199.99 one time fee. Has anyone had any experience with these systems and/or any recommendations.

We're pleased you decided to join us at wmw, jkruit, welcome! Unfortunately, my chat experience is limited to Java based applets served by remote servers. Real Time Aide "looks good on paper" to me though.

There are some web hosting accounts that include PHPchat as part of the package.
