I like BulletProof FTP and the BulletProof Server is fabulous! Much easier to configure than the IIS FTP server.

I have been using WS_ftp...some time back, i got smart ftp downloaded and installed...but couldn't figure out its options that well...

Now, I plan to download leech and try it out..considering the excellent performance in the speed front...

Thanks..:)

Nothing beats ncftp, ncftpget and ncftpput at the Linux (or windows) command prompt :-)

For most uses I like SmartFTP --easy to use, and you can't beat the price!

(For direct editing I use FTPEdit, another freebie. For automatically uploading updating files I often use Arachnophilia.)

I just use the ftp build right into the win2k exporer interface. Open up a remote site just like you would another drive almost(or you can even set a drive letter to be that remote site I think). Just set it up in network places. I tried leech before, but my server had a problem with the multiple threads and kept kicking me off. Thats the big feature that makes leech killer.

As mentioned by others, I find CuteFTP 4.2 to be very dependable and offers lots of features that I need (and many I haven't used.) I especially like the queue and scheduling agent.

I've found CuteFTP to be the most feature rich and easiest to use client. I used to use WS FTP till I got annoyed beyond belief with the way it handles (or doesn't handle) CHMOD (I couldn't find any way to get it to show me the current permissions on a file)

Been through them all - Leech is still tops. Power, features, free. If you regularly download large quantities of files, nothing comes close to Leeches speed. Something I do daily: Download wmw on 512 dsl (35k files)
Leech 32 mins (accurate)
CuteFTP 7 hours. (guesstimate - true figure could be much higher)

I was looking for FTP clients recently in both Mac OS X and on Windows to replace Leech as it just couldn't handle this one file (.pdf) it always corrupted. I ended up using the command line and turfing leech.

I replace leech with FileZilla but also use WinSCP too.
[sourceforge.net...]

But for OS X I settled on Captain FTP which is whiz bang and made in Germany so their is hope yet for random German error messages if you miss them.

Reflection is my first choice... after that WS_FTP and then good old-fashioned command line ftp!

FlashFXP for Win2k.
FTP Voyager for XP.

Both very, very nice.

A vote for CuteFTP, too. I used it for 3 years before I switched.
FTP.exe is also pretty good.

As of the last time I used ftp regularly: gFTP if I'm looking for point-and-click. ftp.exe if I'm stuck on a Windows machine, because it's the only thing I can count on having there. On a Mac, I usually ened up using Netscape, which does have a file upload option burried in the menus somewhere if you are in a directory with upload permissions, again because it's what I can count on finding on someone else's machine.

Anymore, though, I don't use FTP other than for anonymous download-only stuff. It's been years since I've had a host that didn't accept scp (Secure CoPy, part of the SSH protocol) or sftp (a newer SSH feature that acts more like ftp than like rcp). If you are using ftp, anyone with access to any broadcast zone your packets travel through can "snif" your traffic and trivially determine your username and password. SSH doesn't make it completely impossible (MITM attacks), but it makes it much harder.

<ponders>I wonder if gFTP supports sftp yet, and if not whether it would be easy enough to add that I could do it myself. </ponders>

CoffeeCup's 'direct-FTP' is ideal for those with little (or no) experience in this sort of thing - damned cute and damned quick.

Still can't beat command line FTP though...

Another vote for Leech.

I just switched from cute which I've been using for a couple of years and will never go back, leech is great. It doesn't matter to me that development on leech has stopped, my favourite code editor (PFE) has stopped too but I still love it.

Silly name, but 3D FTP and the high level of threads it can support gets my vote. Skinnable too, if you like that sort of thing. Which you won't.

FTP Pro is my favourite but I love using terrapin to annoy my boss due to the fantastic cheering sound when you upload. I mean, who thought that up?
