>"We are confident that Microsoft and the government will limit the use of this technology only to targets relevant to legitimate investigations,"<

I have mixed feelings about this sort of thing. I think it may be necessary in order to prevent terrorists from using the net for communications, but that sort of technology is really frightening ... especially in the hands of Microsoft. We all know how secure all there systems are!

On the other hand ... who wouldn't love to know how to get hold of the spammers!!!

Well, if it's fact, it's another darned good reason not to buy MS.

Yeah, whats the point? If terrorists had something to hide, given the knowledge that such a system existed would simply prompt them to use something more secure(linux) if they were'nt already. The only people this can hurt are the reasonably innocent like people copying mp3s or something. And you KNOW the RIAA will lobby for access to stuff like this.

>>>>you KNOW the RIAA

RIAA == Time Warner/Aol

They definitely have a vested interest in keeping you from getting "free" stuff. It takes about 3 weeks for them to shut down an account once the "RIAA" detects it on "Time Warner" networks. This I know from experience (they made a mistake) and it was an eye opener. Your ISP can easily spy on everything you do. And they do.

First of all, looking at that site, I would only believe about 10% of what is posted. Looks like a bunch of people with CONSPIRACY written all over their foreheads.

MS would never allow something like this to happen. It would kill their name once and for all. MS doesn't like to make deals ;)

Have you read their "about us" page -

The Independent Media Center is a network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of the truth. We work out of a love and inspiration for people who continue to work for a better world, despite corporate media's distortions and unwillingness to cover the efforts to free humanity.

The Independent Media Center (www.indymedia.org), was established by various independent and alternative media organizations and activists for the purpose of providing grassroots coverage of the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle last November. The center acted as a clearinghouse of information for journalists, and provided up-to-the-minute reports, photos, audio and video footage through its website. Using the collected footage, the Seattle Independent Media Center (seattle.indymedia.org) produced a series of five documentaries, uplinked every day to satellite and distributed throughout the United States to public access stations.

The center also produced its own newspaper, distributed throughout Seattle and to other cities via the internet, as well as hundreds of audio segments, transmitted through the web and Studio X, a 24-hour micro and internet radio station based in Seattle. The site, which uses a democratic open-publishing system, has since then logged more than 2 million hits, and was featured on America Online, Yahoo, CNN, BBC Online, and numerous other sites. Through a decentralized and autonomous network, hundreds of media activists have since setup independent media centers in London, Canada, Mexico City, Prague, Belgium, France, and Italy, with more to come.

I have to agree with msgraph. While they're intentions may be good, I serious doubt the accuracy of their information. Besides, any news source that allows ANYONE to upload news stories has a serious credibility problem.

Well, I agree with msgraph, but I also wouldn't put it past MS, and the FBI. But, why would a group like cDc work WITH the Microsoft. I mean, come on!!!!!!

Just my 2 cents...

This has to be fake.. If you look at the quotes from the MS spokesman it becomes apparent.

This is nothing more than someone reworking the MS TV Story [wired.com] (wich does infact use predictive's technology to create profiles).
